Being imprisoned in a foreign country comes with many challenges, one of which may be dealing with a foreign language. ICPO provides language packs to prisoners who are having difficulty communicating in the local language.
The pocket-size language packs contain:
- a booklet of common words and phrases relating to food, health care, prison, legal terms and much more
- a ‘Picture it in Prison’ picture dictionary
The booklets are available in six languages (Arabic, French, German, Hindi, Portuguese and Spanish) and are intended to help prisoners negotiate day-to-day interactions with other prisoners and prison authorities.
If you would like your relative or friend in prison to receive a language pack please contact us.
